Eye health

Regular eye health checks can pick up any vision changes and protect your sight. The New Zealand Association of Optometrists recommend you have your eyes checked every two years to ensure early detection and treatment before major problems arise. We will help you to manage and maintain your ocular history so that all future treatment is unique and appropriate for you.

This is particularly important for conditions such as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration. Glaucoma is the leading preventable cause of blindness in New Zealand, and affects about 10% of New Zealanders over the age of 70. It is gradual and permanent, affecting your peripheral vision first so can be easily missed without professional detection, but once detected any further damage can be prevented.

Macular Degeneration usually affects older adults and results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field (the macula) due to damage to the retina. The damage is progressive and permanent, but can be detected early. There are a number of treatments options, and often dietary and lifestyle advice can make a real difference.

Eye examinations

We provide in-depth diagnosis of a wide range of eye conditions. We combine technical excellence with a personalised and friendly service to provide you with open and honest advice you can trust. While we use the very latest technology including Digital Retinal Photography and computerized Visual Field Analysis, we will explain all results in plain English so that you understand and feel completely comfortable with your treatment options.

We also offer drivers license screening and vision certificates. We carry out colour vision testing and provide eye examinations for entry to the New Zealand Police.

Children's eye care

It can be difficult for parents to detect if a child has problems with their vision. Children rarely complain as they may not know what good vision is like. However, with the vast majority of our learning based on visual references, if these problems are not detected early, they can have a huge impact on our learning potential.

We can carry out specialist age appropriate children’s eye examinations from the age of two, which detect any issues early and to provide you with the right advice and treatment for your child’s vision and eye health.

Families with a community services card are eligible for a free eye examination for children up to the age of 16, plus a generous subsidy toward any prescription glasses that may be required. See our Offers page for more details.

We offer a full range of lens types and over 1000 frames to ensure your glasses not only meet your vision needs but also fit your lifestyle.

We exclusively use ‘Zeiss’ lenses in all of our glasses, offering unrivalled quality and accuracy. We will advise you on the right lens for your new glasses, whether that be single vision, bi-focal or progressive lenses. We can also help with transition lenses, and prescription sunglasses.

We also offer a wide variety of frames, whether you are looking for the latest fashion from world-leading brands, a seasonal update, or a classic style which won’t date. We can arrange to re-glaze your own frame if required. Visit our Frame styles pages to see a selection of our latest products.

Contact lenses

Today most prescriptions can be covered by contact lenses and they may just offer you an alternative to glasses. We will help you to choose the right type of lens based on lens suitability, your visual requirements and your lifestyle.

We offer an extensive range of brands and lens types including disposable lenses available for daily and monthly wear, as well as permanent soft lens and gas permeable lenses

We will make sure that the recommended lenses fit properly and are comfortable to wear. We offer free trials to ensure you are completely satisfied before you purchase any contact lenses, and offer competitive prices for the ongoing supply of your lenses.

Laser surgery

We can work with you to see if laser refractive surgery might be right for you. We will provide you with an honest and straightforward assessment so that you can make an informed decision. If you decide this is the option for you we will provide a free of charge referral to the most appropriate eye specialist for your needs. We can then provide your post surgery checks and follow-up services.

We provide a full repair service so you can get the most out of your current glasses—saving you money. Most repairs can be completed in-house, but if extensive repairs are required we also have a specialist repair service available.
